Default 88 250 quad racer...What is the viewing glass for on the motor?

On the right side of the motor there is a view hole that you can look and see if there is oil in there or somthing. Origonaly i thought it was for the motor oil but that is not possable as it is above the oil fill and help is greatly appreciated thanx.
post script: it is a 86 or 88 but too early (i am too lazy to look) to confirm unless it is necessary

Well, it is definately not an '85 or '86 - the window you speak off if the sight glass for the powervalve. It's there to ensure that your powervalve is actuating. Your quad is anywhere from an 87 on up.
To make sure your powervalve is opening up, look in the glass while it is running and rev the motor to raise the RPM's. You will see the linkage move up if it is working properly.
