Default Grizzly Spark Plug Problem

When two friends and I were riding last weekend, we got into some seat-deep water. My friend's 660 Grizzly all of a sudden started sputtering and then died. Couldn't get it started again so we towed it back home and checked it out in the garage. Spark plug cap had come off of it. We pushed that sucker back on there good and tight and went back out. Same results. We plan to do some creek riding at my place in a couple weeks. How can we keep the cap on the spark plug without it popping off again while riding in the water? Would just holding it down and then taping it down tightly with electrical tape or something work? My other friend has a 450 Kodiak and this has never happened to him.

My buddy's grizz is an '03 with just over 900 miles on it. By the way, for future reference, I mean the end of the plug opposite that of the end that goes into the actual cylinder. It's the end with the cap that snaps onto the top of the plug that runs from the ignition coil.

If it's a rubber boot then get some pliers and give the boot a "gentle" squeeze. This will oblong the barrel that locks onto the plug. You should get a nice snap on the plug when you do this.

Well i dont know much about yamahas.. but they are the same as almost any quad!! when docturbo said a gental sqeeze make sure you dont over bend! let us know how it turns out!! a 03 shouldnt have too many probs its only a year old!! thats why suzuki is more reliable and honda for working around the farm

Default Grizzly Spark Plug Problem

Make sure the little thread things aren't stripped out on the part that goes over the plug. If I'm right, its a ribbed plastic piece, and its kind of threaded to hold itself down in the hole. You can feel it when you push it down onto the plug, cause it vibrates as the ribs go down in there. If those things are stripped, then there probably isn't anything to keep it from just sliding out. That piece is hard plastic rather than rubber. Where as a rubber boot would be tight around the plug itself and hold itself on, the 660 spark plug connector is hard plastic and the threading on the outer sides of it grips to the engine casing itself rather than to the plug. Might need to replace the plastic plug boot.
