hey sunnyside up , I have test rode a 250 explorer and don,t recomend them i do recomend the 400 explorer but this is only my choice. My buddy has one and likes it but it,s to underpowered for me or my wife so she got a scrambler 400. The belts last a long time and are real easy to change and can be done on the trail with no special tools. Hope this helps.

Well... Our Xplorer 250 4x4 is a very fine, quality build machine. We haven't had any problems and the drive belt looked new the last time I checked at around 400 Miles. We now have about 650 Miles on it and couldn't ask anything more from it. It is a very fine machine!! It has done everything I've asked for it (by the way, I'm 5'10" and 220 Lbs.
We went out on a ride today at West Point, Tn. The Temp. was 96 with a heat index of 107 and it kept cool all day. It's got a little fan on the front of it that works real well at pushing air over the cylinder head fins. I only noticed it coming on 2 or 3 times during our 30 Mile ride.
It doesn't make all of these vibrations that our 400 does (mabye they'll go away after break-in.
Well I hope this helps you,

I had one it was a really nice ATV, It never gave me any fits in at least a 1000 miles of riding. I am not totally sure how many miles it had but , I know i have over a 1000 on my 2000 SP500 and I rode the Xplorer for 6 months as opposed to the 3.5 months I have on the SP. I could keep up with any other utility atv.

my friend has a 1995 Polaris 300 4by4 (AKA Xplorer)
but his was a 300 and when they came out with the 400 then dropped it to a 250 but hey 50ccs isnt too much his is great very beaten up tho but hey we ride HARD in water in mud and everything in between...but for the average riding the Xplorer 250 is great also if u get stuck jsut lift it up and ur out
i got my Sp500 stuck and i hooked my winch up to a small tree...pulled it rite down
then i hooked my winch up to the Xplorer 300 and it jsut dragged it so i got a ride back ot my house and picked up my other SP500 and hook its winch to the back of the stuck SP500 and out she came
just to show u that weight does matter

We have two of the 2000 explorers and are very happy with them. Our boys ride them and they have no problem keeping up with everyone else we ride with. Top speed is around 43 mph. In a drag race they will stay with my 400 Sportsman until around 30 mph. They go through water and mud very well also. The fan hardly ever comes, on so I don't think overheating will be a problem. I don't think you can go wrong with this machine. I hope this helps.
