Default Sticker Shock!

I just got done looking at a new 04 GMC 2500HD ext. cab 4X4 Duramax diesel,.......OUCH!! they wanted 42,000 plus fees, there is a $4000 rebate which brings it down to 38K plus fees, but they said my monthly payment would be around $840/m for 6 yrs. I was trying to trade in my 02 2500HD GMC 2wd 6.0 gas, they said they pay that off but, they were only going to give me 17K for my truck! I know that I can get at least 20K or 21K if I sell it out right plus, I think the trade in was hurting me on the sale price for the new truck. I will be looking for a used diesel from now on so if anyone know someone who has a chevy or ford 4x4 diesel for sale, let me know. And, if any one is intrested in a 02 2500HD 2wd 6.0 gas w/ 30K miles let me know. I live in Hanford, California and there is a picture of my truck in the photo gallery on this forum.

thanx,

17K is a pretty reasonable trade for your truck. I just went through the same process in trying to buy the same 42k 2500HD. Trading in my '02 4x4 2500HD with the 8.1L gas and Allison tranny. NADA wholesale with 57K miles is 17K. made the deal to discount the new truck down to $39,500, then take out the extra 4K for the promo discount and trade in the old for truck 19K. Too bad we couldn't locate a diesel with the equipment I needed anywhere in the US, so no deal - probably wait until they start to offer incentives on the '05 models.

Even with only 30K miles, you'll be hard pressed to get over $20K for a 2wd '02 2500HD - sad but true. If you want to get a good idea of your trade-in or resale value check Kelley Blue Book - www.kbb.com

Shop around! Last Aug bought an 04 crew cab duramax 4 x4 with w/rebate (less than $4,000), traded a 97 Z-71 ext cab w/40,000 miles with hail damage ($12,000) and I think we ended up at about $33,000 out the door. 6 yr payment of $460 - dealer arranged for the financing. Even knocked of the price of bucket seats and console option just because I mentioned I wanted a bench seat. We always buy from a dealer in a small town. Tried the big dealers but couldn't get a good deal. I love the truck - quiet but not as smooth a ride as the Z-71. Crew cab is great! Before I started pulling our toy hauler - 14-15 mph avg town & highway. 17mph at 70, 20 mph at 65. Pulling Thor Pak Rat with 4 quads and supplies (6,000lbs) at 70 - 9 mph, 10-12 at 60.

you don't always get a better deal by paying cash. the delaer stands to make more money if you finanace it through them than if you don't.

Thanks for all your input, .......Well I took the plunge! I traded in my 02 gmc 2500hd with 30,800 miles they gave me 19K for it on trade and I picked up the 04 gmc duramax 2500hd 4X4 ext.cab after rebates (4K) I ended paying $36,000 plus fees which totaled out to just under 40K. I also got the 7yr/70K GM ext warranty w/ that price. I got fiananced at 72 months @ 3.9 @ $605 a month. I wil pick it up tomarrow because, the truck had street tires and I told them I wanted the off road tires on another truck on the lot. At first they said can't do that, I started to walk back to my truck and they said didn't want to lose this sale and they agreed to doing the tire swap. I can't wait to see the difference when pulling my 26ft. wanderer. How much of a difference should I expect??

thanx,
