Best article ever written on the subject-

Is this a new bike, or did you buy it used? If new, I would run Honda GN4 (dino oil) during the break-in period (~10 hrs), then switch to Honda HP4 (without moly), a Synth/petroleum blend.
And more than you ever wanted to know-

it doenst say anything about friction modifiers...I bought it used and the guy had synthetic break in oil...I was readin the second thing that reconranger sent and under the topic -Choosing an Oil for Your Motorcycle-...it said..."Remember, 10w-40 oils contain a lot of VIIs which tend to shear in your transmission...does anyone know anything about this?........And can I clean my oil filter or are they only a one time use?
Thanks

I change my oil often, usually every 10 hrs. I figure my bikes are worth the insurance of a few dollars for a new filter, at every change!
The reason I go with Honda oils (what the owners manual recomends), is it is just to difficult to decide which of all the other oils out there are OK. Sure you will get testimonials like, "I ran brand XXXX for years with no problem", but did they just get lucky, or not? Question is, how lucky do you feel???
