trailblazer 250 cut exhaust?

trailblazer 250 cut exhaust?
my friend is looking to hop up his TB a bit and on his 96 his exhaust is all one piece, and well to start he was just going to get just the MTD silencer from HPD.
can he cut it? or what should he do?
