Default Whats the thoughts/real life experiences for Sportsman 700 EFI

I am considering buying a Sportsman 700 EFI. In particular I am looking for EFI and independant rear so there are not many choices. I will hold off until I can get my hands on an '05 model for a fair price but want to know the current list of know issues is with the '04 or '05, things people dont like about them, why I maybe should consider an alternative brand/model, etc. I typically dont like to buy products their first year out so that is why I would wait for the '05 but does anyone know of any functional "fixes" from the '04 model. Its is also encouraging that they came out with the 800 and it is only avaialble in EFI so hopefully that means the 700 is a proven motor and time to go bigger but I just dont think its worth the extra $$$ as it appears identical to the 700 except displacement ... is this true ??? I want the EFI for reliabilility, large changes in elevation with no issues, and hopefully lower maintenance ... do you think this is a true statement at this point since EFI is kinda new to the ATV world ???

Thanks in advance...

I love mine no real problems yet 170 miles.. I have had a gear selector switch go bad but it still ran fine just didnt display the current gear on the gauge pod.. The only real gripe I have is the clunking noise. As a GM technician I see no reason for this slop.. I understand that some noise is gonna happen from gears but this is way way too much.. The 500 doesnt do it why does the 700.. polaris should really work on fixing this problem its kinda embarrassing..

well i love my 700 efi that i got in april.....i have about 400 miles on it or so and had my first problems....on a 100 mile ride i noticed that my idle was incredible low...(600-700 rpm) no problem with the ride, it would run like hell but low idle. but not a few minutes later my fuel line got a hole in it where it would rub against the frame. those are the only problems i had with my machine. took it to the dealer ( good buddy of mine) and fixed no problem...the low idle was a result in the throttle postioning sensor being out of whack and it and to be adjusted....this has been a very common issue with the efi. some machines went down after only miles and some are up to 1100 miles and no problems. its the same no matter what brand you buy. you will have some problems, the thing that seperates brands is how them correct the problems. all depending on your dealer will determine on how long you are down. i had mine back in a couple of days......with that being said. i love my sp.....i wouldn't get any other machine....i have taken my sp thru more water/mudd than any other machine i have owned or any machine that my friends have owned. if you look at my pics. you will see some of what i am talking about. i have used my machine for the farm, pulling wood, grain, hay, drags, whatever. no problems.....as far as the ride on the trail....what a machine to be on. its like being on a cloud. the handling and response is like non other. the irs makes a huge difference when climbing rocks, logs, sand hills. well i could keep on going but if any other members have a.d.d. like me, they will probably fade out.....any other questions just fire away...

I have a 04.5 sp 500 HO and it cluncks when I let off the throttle and hit again. My dealer said it was normal. They are maid to Military specs so US army can work on and pull tranny in the field if needed. At least that is what I was told. Dobie

Hmm my dad has an 04.5 500 HO also and his doesnt do it.. or maybe its just so quite compared to mine I cant hear it.. but I have ridden his quite a bit and never heard that noise. Matter of fact my dad wanted a 700 efi, but he doesnt like the clunking noise on mine so he is waiting on a 500 efi..

I just bought two EFI's last monday and the one I got after my wife picked hers had a fuel pump go out on it after just 11 miles. the trans/clutch makes alot of noise to at lower speeds when getting on/off the gas. it is very annoying. other than that they seem to be ok, nice through the trails and start as soon as you turn the key. this is the first automatic quad I have owned so I'm still getting used to it.

I have about 150 miles on my SP700 EFI. It is a great machine. The IRS and the power really sets this bike apart from the rest of the pack. I can pull as much wood as I can load on my trailer up any hill I have in my timber. I have had zero problems with mine in the 2 1/2 months that I have owned it. The only complaint I have is the clunking in the transmission which has been reported on this forum. It does not affect the performance of the bike.
