Default How do you know what caused limp mode?

We recently purchased an 04 650 and it has 100 miles on it now and on Sunday while it was being ridden real slow by someone else the limp mode kicked in. How do you know if it is really the belt slipping or if it is the electical problem? Since I wasn't the one on the machine, I wasn't able to smell if the belt was hot or otherwise.

Thanks
Matt

I would'nt worry to much about it. When my 100 mile limp mode went off, My 64 year old mother was driving it on a smooth road that was going on a down hill grade. I reset it and it, has not done it since. My 650 is still bone stock and I have had no belt problems,500 Miles.

If it wasn't getting abused on, chances are about 99.9% that the limp mode is the "phantom triggered" version. Reset with plug from dealer.......or a short piece of wire.

I reset it and I haven't ridden it since. I don't ride it much, it is owned by father-in-law so it's not mine. I think they have been riding it some, I don't know if they had any more troubles or not.

Thanks for the help.
