wolverine jetting......what kind of head?
#1
I just ordered a supertrapp IDS2, amsoil air filter w/ uni-vents in airbox lid, and am planning on putting a different main jet in. When I called a few different yamaha dealers to order one, they said they needed to know what kind of head the jet had (hex, round, flat). I have no idea and was hoping some of you warrior/wolverine owners who have rejetted could enlighten me. I thought this was something they could look up in a book but I guess not. I think I am going with a 145 main jet for starters, does this sound about right, my wolv is stock before I put the above mods on.

you have a large round mikuni head. Buy a couple of different size jets(they are cheap) it will save you time running around. Good luck

Thanks alot Lucky, you saved me from having to take my carb off first, which means I can't be riding it while the jets are out. I appreciate your help

Is there not a little bit more science or engineering to this....or do you just slap in jets till it seems to sound and run good? Serious...I would like to do some mods myself, but if guess work is involved, I think I'll pass on anything that requires rejetting or at least till the newness wears off. Im a chiller and boiler mechanic which involves electric motors pumping fluid or gas, little bit different then the combustion engine but everything is precise and has measurements. No guess work involved. I would of figured combustion engines would be the same, but I dont know. Pretty new to me. Still learing all this stuff, which makes it half the fun. Good luck.

run the machine for a few miles, get a little color on the spark plug. Then try to get in fifth gear, hold your shifter down, coast, and kill the motor. Check the plug again(the white ceramic around the firing portion on the plug), if white, go larger. if really dark, go smaller. Best size should run fastest. Color should be a light golden color, if properly jetted. Sound has nothing to do with it. It's not that hard, just need some patience testing it out.
