K&N vs. Uni fliter

I currently have a 99 Banshee with a K&N filter...I live in a pretty dusty area of Texas...Does anybody have any pro's and con's on either the K&N filter or the Uni filter?

99 Banshee, FMF Fatty's, Power Core 2, K&N

K&N is good for sand only, or precharger needed.
Uni filter would be a better choice.

I ride in some major dust also, and I bought a K&N and ran it for about a month, kept it clean and oiled properly, and I found that there was a small film of dust in the intake before the carb.
One word came to mind AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I had a K&N on my 400ex for some time now.... alot of **** got in the engine... not good..

I just recently put the stock filter back on...

I'll probably switch to a UNI. I heard, as several posts mention, the K&N lets too much debris by.

My question, however, is what's the difference between a UNI and the stock 400EX filter.

My stock filter is 2-staged. Isn't the UNI just a 2-staged filer as well?

The stock filter is single stage foam with a wire mesh screen wrapped around inner cage to act as second filter and for backfire protection.Uni is true two stage(two layers of foam.I run K&N w/outerwear and have never had a problem even in dust as fine as baby powder. Keep it oiled and cleaned regularly.But the trick is to wrap a couple layers of tape(I used roll bar tape,similar to electrical tape but thicker and stronger)around end of filter where air boot ring goes over.The K&N filter end is much smaller than inner diameter of boot and will not seal properly no matter how tight you get clamp.The boot ring is originally designed to have filter ring on its outside clamping down on it not the boot on outside of filter.By using tape the fit is much tighter initially and when clamped down the boot bites into tape for air tight seal.Dont bother using boot grease it just make filter slick and will pop out on jumps.Use tape instead.

I currently have been running the pro design unit w/ K&N fliter on my Banshee for the most part of this summer.... I keep close tabs on it for sure.

My filter gets cleaned and oiled after every ride...whether it's dusty or not...The bike produces tons of power and shows no signs of dust or dirt in the intakes. I do run an outerwear also, which I feel helps tremendously. I see no reason why not to use the K&N, as long as you keep it clean and oiled on a regular basis... But then again, I never had any problems for the first 3 years with the stock filter. go figure.
