big horns, ATR's, mud lights....what to try next?
#1
I have ITP 589's right now and I would like to try another tire in 26 inch as well. I also think I would like to try a radial tire. I have read alot about the mud lights and people love them but I think they are very closeto the 589's that I have now so mabey not worth it to try. I would like to hear from people that have any of these tires and what they like and dislike about them. Thanks!

I have ATR's on the Ranchers, and they are completely different bikes (way better!) from stock. I live in the arid southwest, so I can't speak with much authority on how they will do in mud, but they do reasonably well in snow. Only place they lack traction is on hardpack, because the lugs are so widely spaced (to shed mud).

I have the ATR's on my rancher as well and I live in Ohio. The handling and ride cant be beat, but the sidewalls just plain
suck!! the ATR's hook up in every condition.
When I first started running them I was only using about 4 1/2 psi--And
someone told me that because their radials you should run about 6 1/2 psi.
If you ride in alot of rocks I would reccommend the big horns

I have both the Mud Lites and ATR's that I run on Sportsman 500's. The ATR's ride the best and they don't slip when climbing on rocks and logs but they are not a mud tire by any standards. The Mud Lites ride smooth, better than 589's I'm told, and do an excellent job in the mud. I'm in the same boat, I just put my gators on eBay since they rode too rough and are just too agressive for what I do. Now what should I buy, anybody? I have run Gators, ATR's, Mud Lites and the stockers what should be next. I definatly think the Mud Lites are the best for the money so far.

Vaquero, have you considered the Maxxis Bighorns? I am thinking thats what I will be buying next to compare to the 589's. I like my 589's except when they grab something on the side of the trails and rip the handle bars out of my hand. Thats what happened this past weekend and it just about broke my wrist. What I am wondering is if the mud lights do this? The mud lights are the cheapest of the bunch. Minjin, thanks for telling me the sidewalls aren't that strong because we do alot of rocky trails and the stockers won't even make it 100 miles without a hand full of tire plugs sticking out of them. Mabey I will spend the big bucks and try the bighorns.

I think any tire with lugs that wrap around are going to grab the sides of th trails, Mud Lites do and ATR's do. I have heard good things about the Big Horns but just don't care for the looks of them. I will find something or new designs are popping up all the time.
