Default 650 storage box

a friend of mine bought a brand new 04 650 LE a couple months ago. when he got it i went over to see it and take a ride. very nice machine. one thing the machine did was when getting up to speed the storage box located right behind the handlebars in front of the seat the lid would fly up and open. when we got to looking at it, there was no rubber grommets for the two hooks to push down into where the holes are, there was just the holes. is this how they all come, or was his missing some rubber grommets? he has since got some rubber grommets that fit great and the lid now stays down

Your friend got a 650 LE that was only 99% complete. Yes, there are supposed to be grommets in the holes to hold down the lid. If it were me, I would mention something to the dealer about it in a joking way. You never know, sometimes they will help you with something in return or give you a discount or something like that. My AC dealer has a very nice service department. When I brought my AC home I noticed a little bit of oil around the dipstick. Turned out it was loose and on the ride home, some oil(just a few drops but enough to make me notice) spilled out. I told them and they said sorry and when it went back for its first service, they knocked off $25! Never hurts to try.
