Default new torque converter needed after 114 hr

I took my 03 prarie 650 in for the 100 hr belt check light came on the dealer removed a shim.
at the 114 hr point I had just started the hells revenge trail in moab utah.
After two long steep hils the belt light comes back on.
now the dealer tells me I need a new torque converter and a belt. The price quoted to me was $1212.00. Has anyone else had this happen.

please help if you can

Kee

sounds to me like youre getting a load of shiz. try taking it somewhere else and see if they say the same thing. the praririe should have a clutch, not a torque converter like you were told. i could be wrong, but i never heard of a torque converter in an atv. either way the estimate sounds insane. I just got my entire top end of my motor rebuilt for less than 500 dollars, and don't see why it would cost over a thousand for anything

The only atv ever in production with a torque converter is the honda rincon 650.

Either you need a new clutch and he just has no clue what he is talking about, or they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes. A new trans for a prairie does not cost anything close to that amount. In either case, have the quad looked at by someone else.

Torque converter and (variable belt) clutch are synonymous. Many mechanics call them torque converters.
The dude is trying to tell you that you need a new drive and driven clutch (torque converter) and belt. As you found out, they arn't cheap!!!!
