My friend has a 2003 Sportsman 500 and he has the following problem:
It is hard to put in gear, your can hear the gear grinding, also, when it is in gear,
it will start moving at idle.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img] Now does he need to adjust the linkage or
is it clutch trouble????

The problem is with your clutch. It isn't fully disengaging thus making it hard to put the bike into gear. If I am not mistaken I think that the primary needs to be shimmed out a little to make the belt line up in the middle. This is a simple fix and should be nothing to worry about. It should only take a dealer about 1/2 hour to fix, and maybe an hour for you.

Sounds like the idle is set to high. Should idle at 1200rpm(don't know if there is a tac on the 03).......

 

i agree with the idle diagnosis...adjust that first..then go from there...
