Default Reverse Lock Out

This came up in another post so I thought it would be worth mentioning again since all Honda's are close to the same. Check out this link http://www.angelfire.com/tx6/rancher/reverse.htm or click on the Rancher link below and then to the reverse link. It seems to work great.

BTW credit was given to the one who I saw post the tip.

Just remember to come to a stop, before going into reverse. A lot of expensive damage can occur, if the quad is moving forward and shifting into reverse.

Personally I wouldnt mess with it. The reverse is set up that way as a safety feature. Most other machines have a routine to go through to get into R as well. It doesnt take any real effort and the time delay is minimal. I really cant think of a situation where this is necesssary, other than being too lazy to do it properly.

I like the idea. It will come in handy when continuously stopping and backing up such as plowing. I think I will use it when plowing and take it off when out trail riding when I do not use it much. Robnhouston thanks again for the effort in posting the info and photos. I really like how you gave RancherS01 the credit and provided a link to him...that is a classy thing to do.

I basically did the same thing on my 300ex. I adjusted the cable so you do not have to use the little red R button. I still have to pull the lever up, but it does seem to save a bit of trouble. Would this work on all honda utilitys with this reverse system?

Hey, thanks for giving me credit robnhouston! Your setup is identical to mine with the zip tie. I can't see it damaging anything, I've had mine through water, mud, and anything else I could find, it still works manually if I remove the zip tie. Like PINKMOON said, it would be really handy for someone plowing.

Oh, and while I'm here, here's a pic of me coming out of a mudhole the other day...when in doubt, pin it!

Coming out

But remember to let off at some point! I hit something there that spun me 90 degrees and put me on my side!

Oops

Default Reverse Lock Out

Thanks and your welcome.

Well Maddog we can't please everyone. I guess I'm just lazy. I usually have to fumble with to hands to get the think in reverse. On my KQ I just pull a lever, one hand and easy to find, no looking. Other quads have a simple lever. WTH?

After owning a honda for a while I have come to understand their manufactoring plan. Make something decent then put it on everything they make, share parts, cables, etc, keep the cost down, people will buy because it's a Honda. Not saying Honda is making a bad product. Polaris is on the other side, put in a bunch of fancy stuff and electronic stuff that's cutting edge but doesn't last while taking a beating. Somewhere in the middle I guess.

BTW my brother in law has an 86 trx125 I work on. The reverse lever is exactly the same. Nice to know that the red R button on an 1986 honda will fit a 2004 Honda. Sorry for the mild rant.

Rob
