Getting the best deal from the dealer
#1
I am looking at purchasing 2 atv's from my local dealer.
1st is a 2004 Sportsman 700 4x4 which they have msrp'd at $7599 but are special selling now for $5699
2nd is a 2004 Predator 500 - the msrp on that is $6099 and I don't know what a special would be or how much I can haggle with him for it.
So I guess my questions would be
1) Is the 5699 a good price for the 700, if not what would be a better price or maybe someone here has negotiated a better deal please let me know
2) what would be a good offer on the Predator - my thought would be$4900... but I maybe a little ambitious with that.
I know the difference about out the door pricing and how dealers give you a good price only to tag you at the end with this and that...
Any thoughts from you experts would be greatly appreciated...

I would have opted for the EFI version of the 700. 5700 doesnt sound bad for the carbed edition though.
Thats about 100 bucks too low on the pred. Most dealers dont like dropping below the 5k mark on the pred. Even if its a regular edition, old style atv with no reverse.

Excellent thanks for the tip...exactly what I was looking for.
I know end of year I should be able to get some good deals..so you would think that 5100 to 5200 would be a good deal on a Predator then?
I'll check into the EFI option. I am hoping to get over to the dealership to test drive the Sportsman this weekend. I want to make sure it has the power I am looking for although I can't imagine 700cc would be a dog. I am not using it for hunting or utility but as a all around trail and snow riding ATV. From what I here its good in those areas.
Thanks again...

You can bet that if the price is discounted that much, that there is factory insentives working here, and there may not be a lot of room to go lower. Typically, the factory will do a huge discount on one model to get you in teh door, then hope to sell you something else. Go with the flow... I doubt there is a lot of haggle room otherwise. This is the hot season for 4x4 ATV's so don't expect a large movememnt on price right now...
Most importantly, talk to the dealer and let him know that you are interested in establishing a relationship with them, not one based solely on price... a dealer who knows you will be back for accessories, service etc will be much more willing to "deal" than if he thinks you are a one shot wonder. Sometimes it is better to pay an extra $100 buck if in the long run, you get added benefits. In my case, the dealer gives me a 10% discount on all accessories. So far, in 7 years I have spent almost 80 Grand in his store. and I'll tell you, everyone there knows who I am when I go in...
