Default Stupid sand riding question

This weekend will be the fourth time to the dunes and I had a stupid question. There is supposed to be scattered thunderstorms and I was wondering how soon after the rain you can ride, and whether it is as much fun. I have had the misfortune of only riding in perfect weather thus far, and was hoping it was still worth going.

Default Stupid sand riding question

I was at silver lake sand dunes last year and it rained the whole last day we were there on this one trip. We just dressed a lil warmer and rode in the rain all day long. It didnt ruin my trip in fact the cleared quite a few people off the dunes and we pretty much had them to ourselves, I thought it actually made it a lil more fun.

I ride in rain all the time during winter months on the oregon coast. throw on some rain gear. good to go. 2 things I dislike. rain on goggles, and the sand loads up on the rear sprocket. making it hop teeth. usualy only when climing large dunes. hookup is different. but, It does not bother me. GO FOR IT!

Default Stupid sand riding question

On a motorcycle the most favorite time for me is right after a heavy rain. The traction is perfect in wet sand.
On a quad, I am pretty much a fair weather rider. I don't like to ride in rain because of cold and vision problems. I do not like wet sand because the rider tracks are much harder and my suspension is set up on soft side so the ride is very harsh. My favorite time is early AM after a hard blow at night, dry sand, no tire tracks, and warm/sunny.

Since the showers are scattered, then you might not get a lot of rain, and in that case it wont make much difference at all. Even a pretty good rain isn't bad for riding after. I've never been in a position where I could ride in the rain, of the times it has rained on us at Dumont, it rained over night. There isn't a whole lot of rain in the California desert...

I have a feeling you will be fine. The good thing about a little rain is that there is no dust!

Watch out on wet sand your bike will really hook up. power slides are a little different on fresh wet sand. ride partner found that out on first ride of the morning. Black death thru him off quick and ran him over to boot.
