Shifter sticking 1990 TRX300fw

Shifter sticking 1990 TRX300fw
I have a 1990 TRX300fw, It seems that my shifter sticks in the up or down position, it doesn`t seem to be a problem when your on the fly shifting but if your not moving and you shift from 1st to reverse and visaversa it hangs in the up or down position, any suggestions ?? maybe some type of spring could be broke??
