aaen roller clutch setup
#1
hey there ya'lls!
i was doing some preventative maintenace tonite, noticed that my secondary clutch buttons are purty much shot. the helix has a few grooves in it as well, but they look normal. ill prawly go ahead and just put stock polaris ones back in there as "do-fer's". but i dont expect them to last too long.
but i want to know if anyone has the aaen roller setup. the "enclosed roller helix" as they call it. i like the simple design of it, and it looks like it would install easily.
$99 bucks is purty cheap when compared to the $60 for the super duty HPD buttons, or the $200 HSP roller clutch.
id like to know if who ever has one, has noticed improvement in performance. how has it held up?
aaen sells it with their full STAGE 5 kit, so it must stand up to the punishment.
any input from anyone would be appreciated.
thanks,
X

how about the "shift drum" roller conversion from HPD? that looks nice too, but its another $100 over the price of the AAEN. but it looks like it might be a little more tuneable than the AAEN tho.

Like BBS said I have the Aaen roller set up. I highly recommend a roller secondary no matter what brand. It is just superior technology to the buttons. Per formance is greatly increased. I found it to be really dramatic on the Xplorer 250. You can adjust it to back shift quicker or later. It makes your tranny reallly react to your throttle. Don't expect it to make your quad faster, although it could make it a little faster depending on the setup. But like most other things your bottom end could suffer. When set up right it makes the shifting really crisp and sporty.

thanks guys,
i called rick ritter today to get his input.
he said that the aaen is good, the hpd shift drum is better, and the team roller is best. but he recommended the hpd drum conversion. he said that since the rollers actually travel thru the track in the drum that the back shift is far more improved over the aaen. also the HPD has a lot more holes for spring placement, therefore offering more tunability.
ill probably go with the HPD once i save a little more money. the $100 for the aaen was attractive, but i think ill go for the $200 hpd.

I can't see it being a whole lot better due to the tracks, as it could lead to a potential binding, but as I said before get one your comfortable owning. The extra holes for tuning are good. I had stated earlier that it may not make your quad any faster, but I failed to mention it can make it quicker. In other words, acceleration should be improved which also means better wheelies too! Good luck! Let us know how you like it when you get it.
