Picked Up Two 87 Trailboss have ?'s
#1
I picked up two 1987 250 trailboss's for $600.00 for both. I was wondering if these are dependable machines. They had been sitting about 5 years. I took them home and cleaned the carbs and replaced the oil/ fuel lines. they both seem to run great. The biggest problem seems to be getting the back brakes to work. Also I was wondering if I should mix the gas instead of depending on the oil injection. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I picked one up for my daughter last year so far its been great and dependable for her the brakes are not as good as the new hydralics but I went through and and cleaned and lubed all the points on them and they seem to work fine only thing I'm gonna try to rig up this winter is a shifter that is not a pain to get to not sure if they used the same mtr as the cyclone but it will smoke my sons trail blazer in a drag race as far as the oil injection alot of people dont like them but I've had Polaris snowmobiles since they started using injection and have never had one go out yet I think you will get your moneys worth of fun with them

Thanks for the info. I have a 2003 Suzuki Eiger and all my past machines have been 4stroke. My son has a 1996 trailboss and it works great but the oil injection makes me nervous. They machines I picked up will be for my nephews and friends when they come over to visit. Thanks again.

Had a '93. My ex-fiancee had bought it new. When she and her old boyfriend split up, she didn't have a place for it so it sat outside at her folks house (unused and uncovered) for about two years until I met her (I think we picked it up spring of '99). Cleaned the carb, threw a new battery in it and it ran great. Still ran great when I sold it last year for $1500 and almost had people fighting over buying it! Only problem ever was the starter. I've never seen an oil injection fail and I've been sledding for many years. I think you'll get more than your moneys worth out of these.
