Sportsman 90 any good?
#1
I can get a sportsman 90 (I think its an 02) that looks beautiful for next to nothing money-wize. I dont really have any kids around that arnt already riding quads but I was wondering if this thing will haul me around for a pit-bike? I weigh 135lb wouldnt ride it rough just use it to get from point-A to point-B. Are they reliable? Any aftermarket for these things? I was hoping there where some ''dirty tricks'' to make it go faster. (stock they go like what 15mph?) I was hoping to get 20 out of it nothing too fast I dont wanna hurt myself riding such a small bike. Any imput would be appreciated, anything I should know about or even a little review about what you thought of yours would be nice. Thanks.

ElectricShift,
My son has one. It hauls me around well. I am 6'1, 220 lbs on my worst days. No problem. I think they will do 25 easy. There are plenty of members that hop them up. You should have no problems with 20mph.
my .02 worth.

With the SP-90's CDI jumper installed, they are electronically restricted to 15 MPH. With the CDI jumper removed, they can increase up to approx 30 mph. When you purchase this SP-90, hopefully you can also get its factory manual as well. Within its manual, it explains and shows pictures how to remove its jumper and adjust its throttle control screw. If you don't get the manual, many folks on this forum can help you with this simple mod.
If you don't perform jumps, hard fishtails, etc. etc. like a light weight driver, the SP-90 should hold up pretty darn good. There are lots of hop-ups that can be done on an SP-90. Pipe, Air Filter, Clutch and stock carb jet upgrades are the usual first set of upgrades. CDI upgrade if you want to exceed the 30 MPH limit. In stock form, an SP-90 should get you from point A to Point B very well.
