Default differential oil coming through the vent hose?

Hi All, I have a 2004 Yamaha Bruin 350 4x4 and I noticed that there was some differential oil coming through the vent hose under the seat. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?

Thanks,
Guy

I think I am seeing the same thing on the two Bruins I own. The oil is accumulating on the throat of the air filter case. Seems to only be doing this in the cold weather. Didn't see any problem during the summer.

I had the same problem with my '98 Wolverine. I noticed it did it more during cold weather when I rode it fast. The gear oil is thicker when its cold. It didn't cause any problems coming out of the vent hoses, but that stuff sure does stink. Just check the fluid level once in a while, everything should be OK.

I think I had this exact thing happen on my 2004 Wolverine. I had a large accumulation of red oil in my intake box, I thought it was from the intake, should I check the level? What level should the diff be at???

Differential fluid level should be just a little under the threads of the fill plug hole. If you actually fill it to the bottom of the threads as Yamaha states, you end up with the topic of this thread. I've let mine "burp" until it's happy, then checked it and try to never fill it above that "memorized" level. No problems since.

Search "wolverine gear oil" in the Yamaha forum (Jan2/05) for more info on this.

The gear oil should be greenish colored. It also stinks. It kinda turns my stomach to smell it. The red oil you are finding might be excess air filter oil. If you spray too much oil on your airfilted you may be seeing that.
