I have been checking around about a loud clunk in my Prairie and have receievde several good responses and advice that I'm checking. One thing a couple of people told me is that the drive system has a "damper" that helps prevent the damage of the tranny gears, but they didn't or haven't yet told me where this damper is located or what the name of the part it is so I can replace it.

Any help to further investigate is appreciated.

I'm thinking swingarm bearings.

 

Depends on your clunk. Ive had a few. Mine were mostly due to front bearings loose in the knuckles, but I think the 97's didnt have that as bad. One of my clunks was a bad CV joint, it was more of a popping though. I would seriously check the swingarm bearings though, they would clunk under load if bad.
