04 500 HO beat my 03 700
#1
Last nite I was riding w/ some guys, twice I raced a new, stock 500 HO and got beat. From a stop on a stay paved road the 500 got about a bike length on me and I couldn't get him till we hit 55 mph. He is 20 pounds lighter them me, but I don't think that would make a differance. I have a heal clicker clutch and the stock muffler is opened slightly.
Is this normal or is something wrong with my atv?

If your air pressure was very low in your tires it could create some drag.
Do you have the stock tires?
Have you ever checked the front end wheel alignment? If it's off it will create drag also.
Let us know please.

I raced one sunday, it got my 600 for about half a length. We were on gravel and didn't have enough room for top speed where I think I could have crept up on him. Anyone know the weight differences between a 500ho and 600/700?

Them 500HO's are some pretty good motors. I think they are a bit higher reving than the 2 bangers. Now Polaris needs a 800 HO. Oh, and don't hold it against me but I think the diff in the weights is about 50lbs.

500 weights 677, 700 weights 740 = 63 pounds. The rider that beat me was 25 pounds less than me, 88 pounds that is a big differance but I still don't like getting beat by a small bike. I guess I will challange him to a pull off to help my ego. I'm sure I can drag him around all night long.

unless your on a high traction surface you wont pull him around you'll just dig in.
I would make sure the weights on the heelclicker is adjusted properly for this type of riding. Also you dont want to releive too much back pressure on the modified exhaust, you may actually lose power, especailly if its not jetted correctly.
I have the White bro. silencer and I think i need to remove a few plates for optimal performance, at least until I get my Dail a jet.

Ihave said this before the 04 ho's clutching is really good ,I have a heelclicker for mine that I played around with for quite awhile but went back to the stock clutching ,the heelclicker works good on earlier model ho's but it is hard to improve on the stock 04 ho clutching, from 0 to 50 mph these things are pretty quick for a heavy 500 ,but not as fast as earlier models on top end ,Ihave found that you can obtain better top end on the 04 ho with certain heelclicker combinations.I read on another sight where a guy had two 04.5 500 ho's (his and hers)and he installed a heelclicker on his ho and gave the heelclicker a good review ,but said he was unable to out run his wifes stocker in several races they had .(this is not meant to be a heelclicker bash because they are a good product but not really necessary for this particular model)
