Default 2004 Vinson Manual Shifting Problems

This post is for my brother. He owns a 2004 Vinson, 5 speed. Here are his problems:

1. After changing drive mode from high to low (or low to high) and attempting to shift into 1st gear, it will grind and act as if it is "caught between two gears".

2. After coming to a stop in any gear other than 1st and then attempting to downshift, the display goes blank and the quad will not let you downshift.

also, not related to shifting issue:

3. There is a whining noise coming from the rear of the quad. It is louder when on the left side of the quad. It only makes noise when moving over 10mph. Rearend maybe?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default 2004 Vinson Manual Shifting Problems

I have a 2003 Vinson 5 speed. It's better to leave it in gear when switching from high to low. I also found that adjusting the clutch adjustment screws on the right side helped it to shift real smooth. I loosend the lock nuts and gave each screw a 1/4 turn counter clock wise. I'm not sure if the clutch is adjusted too tight from the factory causing the engine braking to catch as you are trying to shift causing skipped gears or grinding. I know it shifts great now.

When the display goes blank just rock the quad back and forth, it should go into the next gear. When shifting from low to high leave in gear, if it grinds just shift it back and try it again.

That is what he has to do to get it to work. You shouldn't have to "play with it" to have it work right.

Thanks, my brother is going to try that.
