I have the seals off but cant figure a easy way to extract the bearing from the front hubs?? Any ideas? Does each bearing come out on the side its facing?

 

Somebody has to have changed their bearings sometime.........?

 

The bearings come out from the side they were put in. start with the inner(bigger) bearing. in between the 2 bearings you have a steel tube, this tube will give a small amount of play right and left. The trick is to use a flat head srew driver to catch the inner edge of the bearing and hit it a few times with a hammer. At this point the steel tube will have more play left and right and some play up and down. As soon as this happens switch from the flathead to a more blunt object (the flat head will go right through the races on the bearing and get stuck causing you to waste time getting it unstuck) and continue using a hammer to drive the bearing out. once the inner bearing is out the steel tube will come right out and then you can use a socket thats about as big as the smaller bearing to drive it out.

Because they are old bearings and your not going to need them again.. then you can spray it with as much WD-40 that you have or some kind of lubricant.. i use WD-40 and it works fine.. then do what Semms40oz said to do.. use an old flat head screw driver because if your bearings are stuck in there good then youll knock the screwdriver and damage it. Did that to my new snap on screw driver.. luckilly i got warrenty lol.. and the socket idea is great!!!!!!

 

I sometimes do this, also, put the socket backwards on the extension, it will give you a flatter area to drive against the bearing and not muck up your sockets edges. You can drive them back in with a socket too but only use once thats the same size as the outer race, dont hit on the inner race at all.

Or to install you can try the hot and cold method. but I have found the hubs have to be very hot, and bearings very cold for it to work.
