Prairie vs KingQuad, I chose...
#1
Hi folks! This is my first post on this fine forum (been lurking for a couple of weeks) and the excellent info here helped me narrow down my search for a new ATV to a Kaw Prairie 700 or a Suzuki KingQuad 700. My intended use is general trail riding, hunting/camping, and possibly a Baja venture sometime in 2005. I live just outside Nashville and drove 200 miles to a dealer in Harrodsburg, Kentucky yesterday who is reputed to be excellent (indeed, they were). I rode both machines and each was highly impressive in its own way. The fuel injected KingQuad was very tempting with excellent overall design (IMHO) but seemed a tad top-heavy compared with the Prairie. I was particularly interested in throttle response, power, and ergonomics. The Kaw sat a tad lower (and had slightly less ground clearance) but THAT Prairie engine was really strong. It was an agonizing decision but I brought home a new `04 Prairie 700 in Camo for $6,495. I ordered a service manual and had them add ITP Mud Lites (in stock size) topped off with ITP's brand of glycol-based pink "slime" sealant. I plan to add front and rear camo soft luggage, a GPS, tire patches, etc. I've been riding dirt bikes, Harleys, and sportbikes forever but this is my first quad and I'm stoked. I'm looking forward to escaping to the boonies soon and any advice or comments will be appreciated. Merry Xmas...!

Warbaby, good call on ordering a service manual. Kawie gets high marks from me on their service manual as it has good illustrations to help you through any repair you need. Get yourself familiar with KAWASAKI'S website as well. They have specifications for every bike they ever built there, so it makes getting part numbers real easy. Welcome to the Kawie family!!!!
