Default Prarie VS. Scrambler

Hey kawi guys....nice to be here. I'd like to start off by saying i love my prarie. But I am looking for a quad that is a little smaller still 4x4. that is why i'm looking into a srcambler. I was wondering your opinions on how a scrambler would stack up to my kawi. Given the mods i have. And if i added a k&N jet kit pipe and clutch kit on the scrammy would it be faster than the prarie

If you are talking drag racing then stock for stock the Prairie will eat up a scrammy. The prairie handles mods very well but I don't know how the scrambler does.

Sorry I ride with a 650 Prairie and have a lot of respect for it, but it does not eat up or even beat my Scrammy. It is however very close. When I say close I mean within 1 or 2 mph. I out excellerate it off the line, it catches up quite a bit in mid range, and top end I very slowly pull away.

Default Prarie VS. Scrambler

This past year (2004), I did local XC racing with my modified P650. One of the competitors in my utility 4wd class was a stock 2004 Pol. Scrambler 500 H.0. 4x4. Here are my thoughts:

I drag raced him in an open grassy field (from 0 to about 50mph) once or twice and I beat him badly both times (4 quad lengths or so). Keep in mind that my P650 was modified, but the scram was all stock...so it may have been a closer race if both machines were stock or both were similarly modified.

When I raced him in my XC races this year, I found that I could catch him/pass him in open straight aways, but I had a very hard time keeping up or passing him in the woods where there were lots of sharp turns and had a hard time keeping up or passing him in any area with lots of rough bumps to go over. I think the Scrambler has a few advantages over the Prairie b/c it comes with longer travel suspension to soak up bumps and and it has little sport quad tires (22" rear and 23" front) for a lower center of gravity and better handling in the sharp turns. I couldn't do much about my lack of suspension, but I did install 22" wheels on my P650 this summer and ever since that time, I have found its much easier to keep up and sometimes pass the stock scrambler in the sharp turns section of the woods.

If you are talking stock vs. stock, I think the scrambler 500 4x4 and Prairie are both good choices for DRY (local) XC races, but the Prairie is probably a little better for drag races...but I also think the Prairie (with more ground clearance, mud/utility type tires and the superior 4wd system when stock) is clearly the better choice for WET (local) XC races. NOTE: I don't think Scrambler 4x4 is eligible to race in the utility classes of the GNCC races...that's why I said above that the scrambler 4x4 is also a good choice for "local" XC races.

If we are talking about modified vs. modified, I think the Prairie is the better choice all the way around (wet or dry XC racing and drag racing too)...but in all fairness, I have not yet raced a modified scrambler 500 4x4 in XC or drag racing yet.

NOTE: I've heard repeatedly that the old 2 stroke 400cc scramblers are VERY FAST in a drag race. While I have never raced one, I tend to believe that the old 2 stroke 400cc scrambler could easily beat my modified P650 in a drag race.

Happy trails...

So given the mods on my prarie how would it go up against a scrambler w/ K&N jet kit pipe and clutch kit? The reason I am after this so bad is because my dad actually owns the prarie, and when i get my scrambler i want to blow him away

I doubt you will blow him away. It will be close either way. One question, what is the weight difference between the two of you? It could make all the difference.

I would agree with a 700 smackin' a Scrammy down. I would also agree with thewayout420 results because the 400 Tblzer we ride with left us behind and I had a couple more mods than my buddies 650.

I raced against a 500 scrammy with my p 650 on a sand bar when the lake was down , I did not know the guys that we met while riding the shore line , well we got to this sand bar and and just kept going around making a nice oval with some jumps on the bar , it ended up this guy and I running round and round maybe 25 times, track was big enough for full throttle, the only time he passed me was when I over shot the landing and drove into the water , 1 lap later I passed him again ended up passing him 2 times when we stopped we both started hooting and hollering what a blast that was, I couldnt figure out why the other 6 machines didnt join in on the feature race. So first hand a stock p650 can beat scrammy , well mine did. OGGYDOGGY
