Default Just bought a 1997 Sportsman 500

I just bought this thing yesterday from the dealer for $2700. It's green, plastic looks new, speedo doesn't work though and I think that is the only thing wrong.

Question:
When the high beams are on are all the lights supposed to be on or just the one on the handlebar.

Also, I did have one problem on today's test ride, I rode it for about an hour turn it off for about 15 minutes then it wouldn't start, the battery was dead, so luckily another four wheeler was there to jump me. Must be a bad battery.

Is there anything I need to watch out for on this bike?

Thanks

Rob

Welcome, the lights thing is correct. Unless you do a small wiring modification, only the center light pod will be on when you hit the high beams (or should I say high beam).

IMO, The alternator should have juiced the battery enough on a 1.5 hour ride.(Unless the batt was already bad????????) You may want to see if the alternator is putting out juice.

Good luck and welcome again,

Bloom

The alternator should be putting out about 14 volts while running correct.
