If you are getting a 2WD Rancher, it will be faster than the Recon. I'm not sure about the 4WD Rancher. I think it will be faster too. Both are great quads. The Recon is a tuff, bullet proof quad. So is the Rancher. I think you'd be better off with the Rancher. If you got the Recon, you'd be wishing you got the Rancher later on down the road. I say get the Rancher.

There's something else I thought I might mention. You might want to look at a Suzuki Ozark. They are a really fun utility quad. We have a Recon and an Ozark. They are both great quads but the Ozark does everything a little better. It is faster, better suspended and handles better. If you got the Ozark you would save a little money over the Rancher. By the way, you need to tell us your age, size and what kind of riding you will be doing.

I had every intention of buying my sixteen year old son a new Recon for an early Christmas present (in time for deer season) but at the last minuet decided on a 4X4 Rancher ES. I could not have been happier with my decision. I used the machine and we both agree that it suits all of our needs very well.
With that said, we are more utlity oriented and use the machines to card deer stands and what not across streams and up the mountain over muddy and rocky trails. For all but the stickiest of places the Recon would probably work, but if you are with a bunch of guys you'll want four wheel drive so that you are not the one always holding them up to get pulled out. We really like our Rancher.
Just from a standpoint of size, even a 2WD Rancher gives you more power and carrying capacity. If you really truly do not need the 4WD, then it's something to consider.
