They are both hondas and if the rancher is a 4x4 the recon will handle better seeing it is a 2x4 and the rancher is a 4x4. If the rancher is a 2x4 it will take the recon in each category.

The Recon is an "intermediate" machine. It is best for beginner adults and older kids who are moving up to a larger machine. Unless you are on the small side, you will find the Recon to small for long rides. Sure, it will be fun at first, but later you will wish for something bigger.

The 2wd Rancher is fairly sporty for a ute. Only think I don't like about it is the balooney stock tires. They make it a bit on the tippy side. I replaced them with Holeshot ATR's on ITP 12X7" rims, and it's a whole new (better) machine! The rims make the bike a fair bit wider, so you can rail around turns.
