STARTER PROBLEMS
#1
I took my starter off my 700 today because it was making a bad sound like its in a bind. Well its worse than I thought the starter cog is wore bad and one tooth is broke. The bendix is wore bad and it has a broken tooth. Has anyone else had a problem like this.

It happened one morning when it was about 20 degrees outside sounded like it was in a bind and broke something. I bought the starter & bendix off ebay yesterday $125.00 for the starter $79.00 for the bendix. Just wanted to make sure this was something that happens alot.

I saw your other post that you picked up the starter, etc....after i posted the reply...
not normal, haven't heard of anyone having the problem...On my new '05, the starter stuck on when new, appears to be normal during breakin, all parts are tight...just tap on the starter and it releases, ride for awhile and doesn't do anymore....heard of several people having this problem.....
I would say it was through wear and tear, but who knows, seems premature, but thats the thing with mechanical parts, things happen, the same with electrical....

posts like this make me upset that Polaris doesn't have the backup pullstart on the bigger quads. My father in law purchased a 94' polaris xplorer 4x4 and it slips alot to the point that most of the time you have to use the pull start to get it running. but this is a good thing cause if your out in the middle of nowhere and the starter fails what are you suppose to do, push start the 730LB beasts?
Polaris should make it to where these machines have the recoil starter and the electric starter straight from the factory on all there machines not just the military version. speaking of which has anyone figured out if the recoil starter like on the military versions can be added to the quads?

I went to the polaris web site and looked at there online manual and to me it looks like you could fit the MV recoil on the sportsmans. You might have to cut some of your floorboad for the recoil.
