Older 500 flywheel ques.
#1
My brother in-law has an older sportsman 500. (96) A magnet let go in the flywheel, and tore up the stator.
Its over 600$ for new parts, and they are pretty scarce on ebay too.--- So what else can we do here?
1. Can he use a newer flywheel and stator from the HO? Would you have to change the cam too?
2. How about repairing the old stuff ? maybe send the stator away? How is this "Ricky Stator"?
3. Would it be at all possible to glue a new magnet into the old flywheel - from a different poalris? (I know this ones bad)
Any help greatly appreciated

some of the older ones are hard to find but they're out there. ive used some things from rickys stator haven't had any problems. as far as gluing it wouldn't recommend it, especially if already spending money on other parts. also the magnets must be lined up by poles to work right.

whitedog, did a quick search the new flywheel and stator numbers are used on about all the 4 stks from 96 - the 01 400 sportsman. so it may not be too hard to find one used. 335, 425 mag, 500 scram, 500 sportsmans, etc were in the list.

i think the ignition curve is different. would have to do some searching to find out if you could swap them out without changing anything else. ill try to check and let you know tomorrow or maybe someone on here knows?? there have been so many changes over the past few yrs i don't try to keep up on all of them, have too many headaches now lol.
