04 Rubicon, what upgrades, all stock now, what do I need?
#1
I have an 04 Rubicon that is only months old and want to make some upgrades. Let me know what you think and your feedback. . .
1. ITP 26" Mudlights or 589's -- which ones?
2. Moose Utilities 4-2-4 switch -- any feedback on this switch to take it in and out of 4x4?
3. Jet Kit/Power Kit -- Do they really make that much difference?
Any other recommendations? Let me know what you guys/gals think would be the best upgrades.

I have an 04 rubicon, its all stock because i only push snow with it. For tires i sugest the 589s. The warn 424 is an excelent thing. I want to get it on my Yamaha Wolverine but I didint buy it yet, Ive heard wonderfull things about it. Jet kit and powerkit really dont make a difference especialy since the rubicon has alow of power but not alot of top end... I think the top speed is around 50... The acceleration is great, it blows away my piped wolvy in a short run, but in a long run, i smoked my rubicon with my brother riding it. Maybe you should try an exaust? I think big gun makes a nice exaust for the rubicon.

Hey Rodge, Congrads. on the Rubicon. I'm a beleiver in the 589's they perform very well in almost all situations, (stay out of the sand with-em and you can airrate your yard too, they make ya feel more like your driving a tank. I helped on the installation of the warn 424 recently, hardest part was figuring exactly where to route the cable and install the switch. Once in 2 wheel-drive it's whole new machine, you'll love it. Can't comment on the Jet Kit/Power Kit. Good luck and have fun. Winch it!

I ride a lot of trails so went with the 26" DU Wetlands radial. They're an inch taller, but wide as stock. They fit under the fender to keep me dry and they should give the quad a better ride than stock, much more aggressive tread too. If I bought a heavier mud tire, the 589s and Goodyear Mud Runner seemed to do the best in magazine tests and owner's opinion for durability and all around strengths. Watch to see what people think about the Wetlands, I'll be trying them out this weekend as I just had them mounted today. Too many plugged MudLites out there for me to use them where I ride, but the new MudLite radial looks pretty aggressive - and expensive.
Bought many SuperTrapps for my XRs, but I won't waste money on a pipe/jet lit for a utility quad. Loud pipes close trails, weight savings is negligible if you carry stuff. Tires, winch, and 4-2-4 first is the way I'm going, maybe a rear bumper as this thing doesn't have brake lights!! My Kimpex grip warmers with the adjustable output work great if it gets below freezing. If the brakes ever give me trouble I'm going disc. I will not put a lift or suspension kit on mine.

i put the 26" mud lites on my honda but the next set of tires i put on it will be mud zillas in 25" or 26"
i have zillas on my kawi and im very impressed with the ride wat smother then the lites and way better all the way around.
also hand and thumb warmers are a great choice.
and a winch if you havent already put one on.
and a cargo box/seat on the back rack.

I guess the tire question is the biggest thing. I want a tire that is good for trails, but not too aggressive. I want one that won't demolish a yard, but when you're on the trails, you can tell that you've got a good set (of tires) And, when you hit a mud hole, you don't feel like "if only I had some more aggressive tires??!!"
I'm sure that you all know what I'm talking about. It's the same for the snow.
I did go ahead and get the Warn 2.5 winch put one when I got it. I'm just waiting to test it out.
I also bought the treestand rack by Moose. That was definitely a great investment. Plus, it comes in handy during waterfowl season when I'm pulling a trailer full of gear and my hunting buddies are on both fenders. They use it to hold on to or as a backrest. Plus, I can hang or use it to carry additional gear.
Anyway, the soon-to-be brother-in-law is a Harley mechanic, so he's going to help me with the 4-2-4 switch as soon as I make that purchase.
One other thing, does anyone know of black wheels that you can get for the Rubicon? I am thinking about having them painted black. When you are trying to cover it up or hide it (hunting), it's hard to keep the aluminum wheels from sticking out so much. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the feedback.
