500 Sportsman improvements?
#1
Hello, I'm not sure if this is a dead subject, but my budget will not allow me to get into a 700 or 800 twin. So, I am considering a '05 Sportsman 500. What simple and inexpensive mods can I do- over time, to improve performance and run with my buddies Vinsons. Exhaust (not too loud though), clutch kits, air cleaner??? I'll use it for trail riding in the U/P and ice fishing on L.S.C. I read mixed results of sucess on H/C clutch kits on other forums. Are they just expecting too much or installing them improperly? Thanks.

Hi
The SP500HO is a surprisingly quick machine dispite the weight because it has an upgraded carb. The cheapest upgrade you can make is a K&N air filter. I would be surprised if you had any trouble keeping up. It is a good machine. I have owned one for 2 years. Some people add a cluch kit as a next step.
