Default polaris sp 800 clutch spring choices

Hey guys, i can't decide on which primary spring to put in my silver bullet. I hear the dalton blue is a good choice, but i will be getting an EPI spring if any, because it is semi- local to me. Here's the data: The stock spring has stats of 0 at 2.5', 20 at 2.25' and 115 at 1.25. Most of my riding iswide open, but not very often am i topped out at 70 mph. I was to get a clutch set up that will maximize torque on the bottom and midrange, without losing too much top speed. I've heard bad things about the clutch kits with weights and helix's, because they are too specified. I put springs in my 650 cat and it livened it up a lot. I want a good spring, but not much if any herky jerkyness off idle. I can get a pink spring, that is 0-24-160, or a maroon at 1-35-170. There are lots of others, but seem to radical for what i want. If anyone has any tips, feel free to let me know! Thanks!

Many clutch kits rely on increased stall speed, or higher engagement, which is what some people that trail ride find a little annoying. Increasing spring rate on compression will raise your rpm at WOT. Increasing spring rate when the spring is uncompressed (2.25") will increase your stall speed. If you go with a higher spring rate under compression, you will probably need to get a heavier clutch weight, so that your rpm matchs peak horsepower. Too much spring rate with your stock weights could result in much higher rpm operation. Heavier weights decrease rpm and lighter clutch weights increase. Getting the springs right with the weight of choice is a balancing act and the challenge in setting up the clutch.

I'd start out with the factory Polaris white spring if you stick with the stock weights. It has a little higher spring pressure on both compressed and uncompressed lengths. The factory Polaris green spring would be the next step up. I'm using the EPI pink primary with a Heelclicker in my carbed 700. The current weights are about 3 grams heavier than the stock clutch weights.

Only advice I can give is try several different springs and see which you like best based on the way you ride. Heelclicker may have something for the 800 by now. These things really work well on the low end and mid range by getting a better grip on the belt. Only problem with the Heelclicker is they give you springs that have high engagement. My solution was to decrease the clutch weight (they're adjustable) and go with a spring with low engagment with a higher spring rate under compression.

Oleman, I see you have a Heel clicker and was wondering what set up you have with the weights? Mine is 1.2 4.3 3.3 with the orange spring I had the stock polaris spring in and like the low engagement but wanted better take off. I think the orange spring has a little to high of an engagement for me. How do you like the EPI pink spring?

I'm using the same weight set up as you. The pink EPI spring brings in the rpm at WOT just about where I want it. Engagement is only slightly higher than stock. If you're looking for lower engagement, I think you'll like it. The fully compressed spring rate is a lot closer to the heelclicker spring than the stock spring. They have a maroon spring that may be a better choice. It was a few months away from production when I ordered it and settled on the pink since it was available. I may eventually go that route, but will wait to see how my planned mods affect WOT rpms.
