how many miles should you get out of a tank of fuel, mine is getting 8 mpg now. It runs crisp with huge power but the fuel consumtion is is out of line. I could get 100 miles out of my 500 sportsman so was expecting about 50 miles to a tank out of the 800. ????????

interesting....I've gone 96 miles on a tank on my '05 700 EFI and still wasn't out....
I get around 25 mpg when just cruising about 30 mph....If I really ride hard the whole time with alot of slow speed climbing, etc., then I only get about 60 to a tank, but I've never hit reserve when doing that....

Wow! That sounds like you have a problem... How many miles/hours are on it? I haven't ridden my new 700 efi enough yet, but I know my old sp600 got a lot better after it broke in. I would always use about .3-.5 gals. more than the sp400 and sp500's in a long day of riding, but it always came out to 20-25 mpg! And the new efi's are supposed to get a lot better fuel mileage!

On our last ride there were two ’01 HOs, a ’00 Magnum 500, a ’05 HO and a ’05 700 EFI. The new HO only had about 40 miles on it when we started that day but the 700 was well broken in with about 400 miles on it. We can’t really go by milage since we were riding in snow with a lot of wheel spin, but after we all started with full tanks and rode together half the day we stopped to fill up. The carbed machines all took 2.4 – 2.5 gallons to top up, the EFI took 2.6. I was pretty impressed with the fuel economy of it in comparison to the smaller motors. Unfortunately the fuel tank is smaller and the fuel pump is inside the tank, which displaces even more fuel storage so range will be less.

Mine seems to have settled on 13 mpg. If it gets up to 15, I will be happy. I guess you can't have everything.

i get about 75 miles on a tank when crusing, maybe 40 when bouncing around.
the 800 uses an enourmous ammount of fuel durring break in, then levels off like a car would, if its brand new, just wait, if its post-break in, you got a problem

Hear is my question on this and maybe someone could answer this for me
Why does a ATV get such poor MPG when a car lets say the toyota echo which is a 4cyl and it gets 60MPG and has to haul more weight and has more power and a 800 twin Sportsman or any big ATv for that matter gets such poor MPG . I mean come on I know there is a diff in terrian but really when you think about it does not make alot of sense at least to me. The ATV manufactures must have a deal with the big oil companys. I know some are gonna say terrian has lot to do with it but put them both on a dirt road travelling the same speed.
Dont get me wrong I would still enjoy ATVing at 5mpg but there must be technology out there maybe that is what they should be focused on first.
Sorry for ranting I just felt the need to express my thoughts thanx for listening
