Default 800 sportsman gas hog!!!!!!!!

break in is about after 11 hours of use.

and a reason why these machines dont get the milage of a toyota, well, fuel milage is based highly on the type of terrain, motor, and tire. suprisingly, a 650cc dirtbike with a 40mm carb would get better milage then a 400cc ATV with a 34mm carb. reason being? TIRES. tall skiny tires are EXTREMELY effitient, not to mention, the knobbs are so close together then it acts like a normal tire up untill about 60mph.

ATV tires are extremely knobby and the ruts are placed about an inch appart, ontop of that, your turning a bigger tire than that toyota.

the belt drive is extremely ineffitient, but highly likeable and usefull for the application. also, our little 2 cyl. 2 valve motors are cranking out almost 3/4 of what that 4 cyl. toyota is.

there are other small characteristics that come into play, but have no need to be listed.

Hey zerowick I have got it pretty close its still a little rich on the pilot and I'm still going to try the 185 main jet in it. I currently got a 180 jet in. I don't know anyone around here that has the 800 yet so I haven't compared. I can tell you that it has alot more tourqe than it had stock. I can put it in low hit the throttle without pulling on the handlebars and it will stand straight up and it will do rolling wheelies. I can put it in high and make it stand straight up but I have to pull on the handlebars to do it. I think thats pretty good considering I still have a bog at take off when I nail it. Everything is working great with the minor mods I did for the 800 pipe.I think it runs about the same temp, fan runs about the same as it did with the Y pipe.

my 800 will only do a wheelie in low while rolling, and not that high, however, i can pop a wheelie in high while sitting on the tank and almost fall off of it. something wrong with mine?

I've got two of them, I ride with at least one of them on my machine at all times...well almost all times. As I talked about before, riding here in New Mexico can be extremely deserted....nobody for a 100 miles in alot of cases, so the extra fuel is a must. Of course if you want to take your chances of walking back 40 miles in the dark and don't mind some hungry Mountain Lions, then ride without the flat pack....

BTW, the cheapest I found the flatpacks are here, shipped:

the most ive ever gotten out of mine is 35 miles to a tank. dave you must have bought the superman version of the 700 efi. you get 100 miles to a tank of gas, never had a minutes trouble with over 500 miles. or you must ride yours like a grandmother.

You must get more then 35 miles to a tank, if you don't you have a BIG problem get it checked. My buddy who has a carb 700 even gets better, he gets around 70 miles, EFI is supposed to get 20% better, probably 10% in the real world, so you should be hitting a minimum of 80, if your not there's something more wrong with your machine then you think. Must be unless of course its in LOW gear all the time, I hear they burn more that way.
That is why I'm now starting to lean towards the 700 EFI more then the 800, as besides a little more bottem end power and 1000 more, the 700 seems to be better on fuel.
The dual exhaust disappointed me when I seen it, it is mostly for show from what I've been told. they split right on the muffler, so it doesn't even have a Y pipe.

yeah 2c3, theres something wrong with your 700. running my 800 like a sport quad, hammering the throttle, and throwing itself to 40mph in no time, i get about 40miles on the tank. and when im cruising at about a constant 35 to 40, i get about 80-85 miles to the tank

I checked my 700 (carb) today and got 13.33 mpg. I did some wot runs and some slow terrian and it set and idled for a while on the trail while my and my buddy talked. Thats how I normally ride so I should get a little over 60 miles to a tank.

not bad considering all your mods and all the fuel goin' through that motor now. haven't checked mine in a while, just filled up today, think I'll keep an eye on this tank just to make sure I'm getting more than you with a stock 600
