Default 02 rancher es shift problem no codes new batt.

I have a 02 rancher es and im having problems with the electric shift. I replaced the battery and it seems to help but now it seems if i rev it to high or run it too fast it quits trying to shift. I turned the key off and back on and it works sometimes but sometimes i have to manuually shift it to neutral then it works again. Nothing is flashing or blank. The instruments are working fine. Before the new battery it made shifting sounds but wouldn't shift down except manually but the new battery seems to fix that mostly.

Mine did exactly the same thing, take the connectors apart and give them a cleaning. Then put some new dielectric grease in the connectors and give that a try.

The connectors should be the ones above your right tire on the frame, the ecm is located there .Also check the ones mounted on the front of the frame. The first connector on the left looking at the front of the bike is the one that controls the shift motor.Hopefully this will help ya.
