Things to do before I hit the Dunes?
#1
Just getting ready to take the DS on its first dunes run next month to LS, OK and wondering if I need to do anything maint. wise to the quad. I have a Mr HP endcap, rejetted, 14T front sprocket, and will prob be running 22 Sand Stars. I am planning on getting a no toil or KN filter before I go. I will be at the dunes for 3 days straight. Do most of you take a couple filters or at least clean yours everyday? I am also going to repack all the bearings before I go. Anything else you guys can think of? Also anyone still have the ATV connection flags for sale?

Sounds like you ready. I wouldn't recommend cleaning the K&N that often. Dunes generally don't kick up that much dust and besides K&N actually recommends NOT cleaning it too often because it works better with a little dirt. With that said, if you are blasting thru the desert and there is allot of dirt and dust then I would just watch how dirty it gets the first day and make adjustments then.

LS is very clean sand. You could ride there for a long time and not need to clean a K&N. Outerwears are good. Sand isn't nearly as hard on stuff as people think it is.
You will be wishing you had more power by the end of three days.

You may want to trim the tabs/ears off your heel plates. I run 22 haulers which as I'm sure you know have a much shorter paddle than Sand Stars do and the heel guards will kiss the tires occasionally i.e. g-outs etc. I'm going to take the dremel to mine before the next trip.
As far as the air filter goes I've ridden 2 days at Glamis, 1 day at Amargosa, and 2 days at Dumont and the air filter still doesn't need cleaning. You gotta love having something that'll run awesome with an enclosed airbox.

Take it easy until you learn the area. Sand is fun but should be ridden with caution, Witches Eyes, Drop off, etc.
Get as much light on your quad as the stator can handle.
Be safe.
