Hey im going to buy a winch finally, and was just wondering wheres the cheapest place i can get an easy good mounting plate, roller fairbed, and 2000 pound warn winch. And is it bad to constantally submerge the electrical winch?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Cabela's has a great selection. They have quality winch mounts and all the accessories. Their mounts come with a fairlead for around $59.00.
I'm thinking hard about the Rancher or a Forman. I am a little concerned about that LCD display. It sure seems fragile and expensive. What's your experience? Does that Rancher turn easy in the tight trails. I'm on a Yamaha now, but have a weakness for Honda's ergonomics and reliability. Can't wait for them to make a true sport 4x4!!

only sissies buy store bought mounting plates...farm and tractor supply has a 1500 for about $140, spend another $15 for 50ft of cable then it will be a 2000. you can make your plate out of any type of scrape metal, just drill your holes and use u-bolts to attach it. you can also get by without a fairlead, another $35 bucks you can keep in your pocket. but if you really need to spend that extra $300 just remember i tried to talk you out of it.

You propose a valid, low-budget approach, Rancher! Someone with access to tools and their skillful use can fabricate a satisfactory mounting plate costing little or nothing. A hawse fairlead is fully adequate for ATV winching; I'd buy a ****** block long before a roller fairlead; then, that $ 140 T1500 would perform like a 4000-pound winch.
However, some prefer a particular brand, like Warn (excellent products, by the way), and either want a "store-bought" mounting plate or don't have access to tools and scrap, and want a roller fairlead because they look cool (they do), and maybe they have lots of money available for accessorizing their quad.
I've seen some really sanitary home-built winch mounts, however; some innovatively using aluminum plate--a practical approach actually superior to the mass-produced models, saving weight but strong enough.
So, different strokes for different folks--some enjoy designing and fabricating their own gear (or can't afford to buy ready-made), and some just like to open the box and bolt it on--either path can lead to the potentially life-saving benefits of a serviceable ATV winch installation.

Hey Tree Farmer,(or anyone else who might know) you seem to really know alot about winches.
I have a 1500 Super Winch. Is there any draw- back to putting 50 ft of cable on instead of the stock 25 ft?
Also, I messed up my winch switch in an accident a few months back and have a hard time getting it to work. Dennis Kirk has replacement switches but they are $50. Do you have any suggestions of any replacement switches other than the OEM parts?
Thanks, Jay

The only drawback you may experience is a slightly decreased amount of pulling power on a short pull. This is caused by the extra cable wound on the spool. The pull ratings will change with the amount of cable you use on any given pull. The less cable on the spool the harder it will pull.
