Default Power and Tire size on a 2004 450 kodiak

I have a 2004 450 kodiak. can i put a HMF muffler on it with out rejetting the carb and get more power.

I'm putting 26 inch mud lites on it with ITP wheels the question is I'm putting 9-12 26 on the front and 10-12 26 on the back I have a chance to put 10-12s on the front and 12-12 on the back. will I lose alot of power with the 10-12 & 12-12 tires or should i just go with the 9-10s and 10-12s

i cant help you on your tire size but i can on the power question it is always good to get a jet kit for your quad when you get a exhaust hope it helps and also you will not get more power by not putting a jetkit on

I had a 03 kodiak with ITP wheels and 26 inch 589's and there was a power loss but not that bad.....however in reverse it was bad, hardly enough power to back up when stuck in deep mud. The mud lites are much lighter than the 589's so might not be that big of an issue.

coacho, Id personally go w/ the wider tires. I think they wear longer, and maybe get a little better traction, especially on rocks and hardpack. I dont think you will notice any difference b/t the 9-10's or the 10-12's. Like lafngas said, Mudlights are a good bit lighter than 589s, and 589s really arent that heavy. Youll be just fine either way.

I have a 2003 Kodiak 450 , I have ran 27" gators on it before and now I am running 26" mudlites on c-series , these are a excellent tire for this ATV and the power loss is no big deal, they preform great.

Thanks for the information. I ran the tires today for 35 miles I really liked the feel but they hit my finder flairs at times. I noticed that my front shocks were set on #2 and I will adjust them tomorrow to 4 or 5. about the power I lost about 15mph on a dead run. it now feels like there is no low end power. it feels that it is sluggish "no power on take off and now I have to run full throttle up hills. but I really like the looks of these tires and I no longer have that tipsy feeling on trails. what muffler did you put on it and how did it make it feel on take off. exactly what HMF muffler did you get and is there any thing else that helps that I can do with out rejetting the carb. have you heard about a power module that helps with the power.

Thanks Coacho

most time if you put bigger tires on a quad you are going to lose top speed but you will get farther in mud though dont you agree gentlemen
