Default Problem with reverse

I have a 1999 Sportsman 335 4X4. About half the time it pulls hard to the left or right when you put it in reverse. It feels like something is locking up. You can clear it by going forward and backwards. Sometimes it takes several tries. The person I bought it from said that it has done this since it was brand new and the dealer said it was normal. Anybody out there know about this problem or how to fix it?

Default Problem with reverse

Could be your4x4 not kicking in or out properly. I put mine in reverse, back up a bit, then forward again. Usually works. BL

Default Problem with reverse

sounds like your hub fluid needs to be changed/checked. if the fluid is still a good color, check the level, but if it is muddy or milky or dark, change it. to check the level, turn the hole for the fluid to a 4o'clock or 8o'clock position and this is where the fluid should be right at the edge. turn it a little more toward 5 o'clock to see if any comes out. if still none, you NEED to add some fast. hope this helps, PB500

Default Problem with reverse

Polarisbear 500 gave you some really good advice and I agree that it might help, but I have been riding Polaris since they first started making four wheel drives way back when and some seen to have that problem while others don't. Keeping good fresh oil at the correct level in the hubs seemed to help the most. Hope you get the problem solved!
