Anyone know the top speed of the 2005 sportsman 500ho (carb)? I know they will all vary depending on rider, etc, but just wondering what everyone else is acheiving from theirs. I have one and have had it about 55mph according to the odometer on the bike, but I ran out of road. Is this about all I can look for it to do? I weight about 150lbs.

 

Welcome to the forums!The newer sp500s have less top speed because of clutching changes made on 04 and up models. I believe they have a different helix. Mine is a 2002, so it will top out at 60mph. You should be able to hit right around 55-57mph.

 

Yeah, I got a 2004.5 - 500 HO and I can't quite hit 60 on my dirt road. I weigh 190. But that's fast enough for me anyway. I don't need to go any faster than that.

My 01 will hit 60 mph and so does my buddies too. The elevation here is approx 2000 ft and I weigh in at 190 lbs

 

The speedo's on these machines arn't the most consistant and or accurate either, tire size if different than stock will make a differance as well as for the newer modles being different I don't believe polaris has made a change to the cluthcing since the ebs model was released.

 

04 SPortsman 400, Top speed-62 MPH.. And it is screaming at that point and I dont believe it will be bale to go any faster, as it has run out of gearing and clutching at that point.
