ITP 589s and Ramsey Winch Advice
#1
Well guys I just got my wife a little upset with me!!!! I have a 99 Prairie 300 4x4 that I just purchased a 2500lb Ramsey winch with mounting plate and a set of 26" ITP 589s. First of all I was just curious as to how much power I would expect to lose going with the heavier 26" 589s? I really like the tread pattern on these, especially for the muddy terrain that I go in. The next piece of advice that I am looking for is in regards to the winch (i.e. installation, performance, considerations, etc....) I am not that worried about loss of speed due to the muddy terrain that I ride in, but I was just curious what to expect when I get them. Thanks for any advice.

.........I think you'll like the 2500 Ramsey (is it wireless?)
I've got a 2500 Ramsey wireless on an Eiger and it's performed very well........the comparo's show they use less amp's than some.
One thing you may want to consider is going to synthetic rope instead of the steel cable. Much safer.......and a comparable joy to use.

...................and don't worry about your wife. This is common among wives.............
Mine did the same thing when I brought home the Eiger........she thought it was for ME !
When I pointed out the fallacy of such a notion..........her birthday was just 3 or 4 months away.......mine wasn't until clear next year.......if I was being selfish, I'd of bought two of em'..........one for me.
And since this was a new and untested machine, I'd take all the risks involved in breaking it in correctly.
And just to show her my heart was in the right place, I put a GPS on it.........and a Pioneer box on the back full of extra stuff...... like fishing gear........and a mud anchor !
I've got about 1700 miles on it and it's just about ready for her............just about.

This one has the toggle switch that mounts on the handle bars. The wireless remotes looked kind of cheesy to me. I may consider the synthetic rope when/if the cable frays unless there are enough benefits to switch over. Thanks for the advice,,,,,,, how was it mounting the winch????

............not bad.........I talked a friend of mine into doing it...........he does winches at his work.
I do think it can be a bit of a challenge.........but there are folks on this forum that will help, I'm sure.
