Foamy Oil ?
#1
OK call me an idiot.
I was changing the oil on all my machines outside and it started to rain and couldn’t get them back in the garage quick enough. I’m assuming this is why the oil is contaminated with water. I can’t believe that allot of water got into them. How much water does it take to contaminate the oil? I can’t imagine more then a few drops got on the filters and covers.
From past posts, I have read that you just have to change the oil a few times to flush it out.
Do I have to change the filter each time as well? I want to make this job as easy as possible considering I have to redo 3 out of 7 machines.
Has anyone else had this problem occur with just changing the oil and not running into the rain? The oil that came out was fine but when I changed it the oil looked foamy. However if you let it sit for 5 min. the oil looked fine.
Also the color of the oil didn’t not change much after the change. I was expecting it to become lighter. These bikes have been neglected for the past 4 years because my uncle passed away. I have assumed the responsibility and will be sure to take care of them now teaching my cousin along the way.
Is it normal to not see a drastic change in color change? These bikes have sight glasses not dip sticks.
Thanks for your help

I cant beieve that much got in there, to cause foaming.Did the oil level go up very much? An over full crankcase will cause foaming too.
If it were me, id change the oil. But if your feeling lucky, you could drive them on a low humidity day, and let them fully warm up, then park it in the sun with the dipstick out. The steam and water should come out then. It might take a cycle or two of doing this for all the moisture to come out.

Ok I could be totally off base here , but you don't think it could be condensation could it? Does the Kawi's have some type of cvs valve like on car engines?

There is no way you got enough water in the crankcase to cause an issue unless it was a severe storm. Water is a major component in the combustion process and gets blown by your rings and into your engine oil every time you ride. It also turns to a gas and is vented to the outside air when your engine is warm. Your oil also has additives that bind with water and prevents it from doing harm uintil you get too much. I would not worry about the two drops of rain that got into your oil. Go for a long ride and the water will be gone.

what about they type of oil you use. Ive read threads about oils with detergent and ones that say "energy conserving" in the API logo.
Do you want oil with detergent?
Why dont you want oil that states energy conserving
