H.O. Cam and Carb for a 2000 Sportsman +Green Spring or EPI clutch Kit?
#1
After hearing about DieselPro's wheelie popping Sportsman H.O. with EPI clutch I just gotta add some juice to my May/2000 Sportsman. My local dealer says he'll put in the cam and carb for $550
but doesn't reccommend any clutch modifications other than changing clutch weights to compensate for elevation (5000-6000ft.) IS the Carb and the Cam it? are there any other differences between the H.O. and a stock 2000? Is the EPI clutch kit worth the money? would a green spring, or beige or whatever do as well for less $$$??? Any info
would be appreciated.. Thanks,,, Silly Later,

Okay, I ordered the green and the white spring from Rex Ritter. BUT the latest word is the H.O.
cams are backordered till January. Rex seemed to think the white spring would work best on a stock
SP500 and the green spring on an H.O. Any words of wisdom out there?? Thanks,

Hey, anybody out there think I can put the 34mm carb off the SP on my 325 magnum? It really needs
a boost.

I had the EPI clutch kit on my 99 Sportsman,it cost me 230 dollars with installation.I felt it was a huge rip-off.The power gains were barly noticable,if any at all.
They tested the Hot Seat clutch kit.Time in 200 yards was only 1/2-3/4 of a second better. What a waste if you ask me.
I have the green spring in my 00 Xplorer 400cc,it rocks.Im running 26 inch Mudrunners on it,they really show a MARKED improvement hooking up.Actual belt to tire hook-up is readily improved. The green spring on my Xplorer did more for me than the entire EPI kit did for my Sportsman,

Why not try an aftermarket cam? You'll likely get even better performance. Have Rick taperbore your 40MM carb before installing it!
Ask Rick R. about the AAEN cam. You'll get an HONEST opinion!
Maybe web makes one too???
I think ChopperBill was helping locate the stuff, but contact him off forum to keep the moderators happy

A regular sportsman will pop a wheelie also, if it is ruuning properly. All it took on my bike is a throttle cable adjustment and a 2" snorkel to allow for more air. The bike will ride a wheelie and tops out a little over sixty. (2000YellowSP500) It will do 57-58 with 27"Mud Bugs. if you do the upgrade, post performance numbers before and after so the rest of us can judge if the increase in performance is worth the money.
Thanks,
Greg
