if u run a 12 front and 41 in the back u will lose about 2mph on top speed. I have a 12-40 gearing on mine and i lost about 4-5mph on top speed but the bottom end is much better.

if u go bigger with the rear that makes for better top speed and if u drop 1 in the front its equivlant to dropping 3 teeth in the rear so if u run a 12-41 gearing u would loose about 2-3 mph cause i lost about 5mph wirh running a 12-40

When selecting sprockets other than stock: for more LOW END, go larger on the rear, or lower on the front. For more TOP END, go lower on the rear, or larger on the front.

Remember also this all adds up to more shifting. I tried short gearing but it just felt like it made first useless and I started at 2nd with a 5 speed gearbox. More power or less you weigh the higher the gears you want, less power or the more you weigh you want lower gears.
