Can this be shifted from 2wd to 4wd while on the fly, or do you have to be stopped. I.m considering a purchase and the atv has the warn 4-2-4. thanks

 

It works better if you are moving, but off the throttle. It can be done stopped too however, but may not engage/disengage instantly.

 

You can do it any time on the fly provided the tires are not spinning. If they are your in trouble, I usually let off the gas when switching. Switching when stopped dont always work becuase the gears aren't always lined up, moving slowly makes it easier, but its no more difficult than switching the tranny when stopped (sometimes you have to rock the bike).

 

He means if the front and rear wheels are spinning at different speeds. You want to synchronize the gears before allowing them to mesh.

 

I engage it on the fly, but never under a heavy load. I do try to anticipate needing the 4wd, and switch it before it's an emergency.
