Default 05 sportsman 500 clutch set up questions

A while back it was posted that "On the SP's you don't even need a whole clutch kit. You can change the primary spring ($20) and change the secondary spring position (free) . This will have a huge affect on how it shifts and puts power to the ground."]
I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what primary spring I should install . I am looking for more better throttle response and quicker acceleration, I do not care about losing top speed.
And what dose the "change the secondary spring position (free" mean and how do you do this?
My sportsman 500 is stock except for a k&n air filter, I ride alot of tight trails and mud at a elevation between 1500 to 8000 feet.
Any help would be great

Basically you would use a heaver rated primary spring to raise engagement.
Not good for tight, slow technicial riding.

Check other posts for spring color and rates, do a search.
Go one or two up from what your stock one is.

Jim

BTW, the '05 500s are clutched for low end acceleration, my buddies will pretty much keep up with my '02 700 til around 30 mph then bye , bye.

The Polaris white primary spring is what you want. You will not lose any top end speed. This spring will restore performance to quads which have had larger tires installed.

Your stk. primary spring is a blue/grn if you wanted to change just the primary spring we wuggest running our green. On the secondary you have team cluthc on you quad so you cannot change the spring settings like the older models you would have to chnage the sec spring all together but the quads with the team clutches on them tend to perform better in stk. form if i were you and you wnat ed to go with the cheapest upgrade I would go with ou green primary spring for starters.
